Which [House] Battery Post? Keith 5-10-03
I'm about to replace my 2 house batteries on my '84 Pace Arrow. The existing ones have several function wires running off each positive post... I'd like to clean that up with a single wire to a wiring block. What's the protocol for which post to take the wiring block off of? And on the wiring block... is it imperative to place largest loads nearest the incoming connection? Dielectric grease essential?

I was just wondering what another name for a battery post would be and if there is one that starts with an A.

On your two 12 volt--I'm assuming you have two 12 volt batteries wired parallel, and not two 6 volt batteries wired in series-- it makes no difference which positive post you use to run a HEAVY wire over to a power buss bar to connect the various house circuits to. Dielectric grease is not needed, after all your connections are made, just coat them with Vasoline to prevent corrosion.

The heavey loads could be a factor for certain reasons. Wire lenght is very important. The longer the wire, the more the voltage drop. The voltage drop should be kept as low as possible. If the wire run is short, voltage drop is not a concern unless the size of your wire gauge is real small. If the run of the wire is long (10ft or more,)used a gauge of 12 or 10. 10 would be better. Also, it is very important that the set of batteries match close in resting voltage and load testing readings.

I would recommend using 6 or 8 gauge wire to the wiring block. Make certain is is stranded and not solid.

Keith, My 84 Pace Arrow had the same setup as you. I moved all to heavy junction block on firewall and really cleaned it up. I did move the Fridge, converter, Main House lights wiring (all 8 gauge) back to positive side of battery because of draw and house lights were brighter. Another thing I did was install the Trojan 6volt batteries, much better than 12v deep cycle and reserve is also much better.
