After genset exercise (two hours) I hit the housecoach elec off button as the genset was winding down. Subsequently, the house battery won't accept charge from either shore power or genset. All other house and auto elec systems continue uneffected. Veh is 1998 Coachmen "C". Ideas - Tks BH
Sounds like the automatic battery/converter swich could be stuck. this switch switches from battery to converter, when you are plugged in, and back to batter when you are unplugged or lose 110 volt power. sometimes you can unplug it, and plug it in a few times to unstick it. I have found sometimes it is the easiest things that can be overlooked. I have had oon more than one occasion the same sort of thing happen to me and the culprit was usually dirty battery terminals.
If enough crud is allowed to build up it will not allow any current to pass in or out of a battery.
Cleaning the terminals and battery cables can make all the difference. I have seen the corrosion move from the terminal end into the cable so far as to make the cable unable to carry current.
Check the charging circuit to see if its putting anything into the batteries.
If it is, then have your battery checked to see if it will hold a charge after it has been charged up.
Any auto parts place can charge and check the battery to see if it is ok.
Running the generator for two hours will not put a full charge in a discharged battery.
Best way to charge a battery with the generator running is to use a battery charger running off of 110-120 v. It will charge a lot faster with the charger.
I would remove the battery and try to charge it with a regular battery charger. If it takes a charge, have it load tested. It could be a faulty battery.
