I had an 88 that did that. The problem was the exhaust was restricted. It would run good then all of a sudden act like it couldn't move. Gas mileage was poor. Come to find out, the catalytic converter was blocking the exhaust gas. Also, when it had poor power, I noticed that if I drove it like that for a while, the exhaust manifold got cherry red. I ended up cutting the convertor off and it ran like a million dollars |
