I have a 1988 ford ranger with a 2.3 4 cyl in it runs great at idle. When you give it more throttle it boggs down and has no power any suggestions?
Re: 1988 ford ranger BUBBA THE BUS TECH 8-29-09
Okay, 3 random guesses. Ignition: The ignition is stressed hardest at normall cruise speeds and full throttel. Cap rotor, wires, plugs and possibly coil. The key is High throttle settings and cruise speeds, works better at higher rpm. Fuel supply: Gets worse or just quits above a certain throttle setting. This could be in order of probiblity: fuel filter, fuel pump, in tank fuel screen, fuel pressure regulator. Plugged exshaust: Idles fine, runs poorer and poorer the higher the throttle stting and rpm, sounds like a plugged vacume going down the road and at high throttle settings, sounds fine at idle. Plugged catilitic converter, plugged muffler, damage to system, and I have seen a internal failure of the pipe. Good Luck
