Welcome Angie,to the rv world,yes the reefer needs 12 volts to operate on auto, battery Ground wire from the frame goes to the Negative terminal on the battery, get the RV Maintenance & Repair manual (about $20.oo --see right top of this page References,some rv dealers have them -or camping world,best book for any one trying to figure things out, from here it takes to much to explain it all, rich in va..
