Coleman Taos Interior Lights Don't Work JPritchard 6-15-09
I was camping this last weekend. On Friday all was well; on Saturday night about 10:30 PM the interior lights in the camper suddenly quit working. I heard a"chirp" from the LED panel at the front of the camper and then nothing: no lights on the LED panel and no lights period. The outlets and AC still working fine but no low voltage lights at all when plugged up to the campground 110v.

If I plug the camper to the truck via the trailer hitch wiring attachment everything is fine; just nothing if plugged to the camp ground (or any other) electrical connection.

I have checked all breakers, GFI, and fuses that I can find.

Help!

Guessing but it sound like a main fuse or breaker by the battery blew. The spec is that withing a couple feet there has to be a dedicated fuse or breaker to protect the system. If your converter quit or is wired to the battery direct. (common on some makes) This would explain it. Find the battery and trace the main battery power feed (+) cables back to the frame etc until you find the hidden problem. The only thing is the truck should directly wire to the battery to charge so the break away will work if the trailer comes detached. So how you bypassed the problem kind of indicates the unit is not wired correct or you have a corrosion problem in or on the battery conections. Good Luck

On this Taos I do not have an auxiliary battery. Just the pigtail to go to the AC plug and the trailer hitch wiring harness.

Does your advice still stand with this new info?

BTW, I know I have power going into the circuit board/power converter. The is nothing coming out when plugged into AC power, but voltage is definitely present when hooked to the truck trailer hitch harness.

OK I don't know this particular unit or how old it is. Modern converters will fail if not run with a battery. Older converters divided the charge part and power supplies into two seperate operations. If your trailer has electric brakes it must have a breakaway switch and battery. If you have no brakes or Hydraulic surge brakes difrent rules apply. Anyway you need to find out what 110 v to 12 v converter you have and why it failed. But I do have 5 bucks (canadian) that says you have a fuse or fuses blown in the converter or something fatal happened inside it. Good Luck
