I have a 2003 Rockwood 1940 LTD with an Elixer 12 amp power converter. I have never used the 110 volt always been on 12 volts. This year I left the trailer outside and I removed the battery. Now I am plugging it into 110 volts. I do not have the battery in and now the 110 volt outlets work well but the lights flash on and off and the smoke detector is flashing low voltage. Does this mean the converter is defective?
Do not plug into 110 v power without a battery on your unit or disconecting the 110 v from the converter. It is very hard on them and will kill them eventually. Put you battery in the unit and see if the converter will charge the battery and provide power to the unit. Look for 13.5 or more volts when pluged in and with a charged battery. Good Luck
Ok Thanks, I tried putting the battery back in, Without the trailer plugged in all works well, heater, fridge and lights. When I plug the trailer in all still works but you can see the lights pulsing. I have to assume that all the wiring is fine and the ground is good. I am assuming that a diode had gone on the recitifier and I am getting only half of the ac converted to dc thats why it is pulsing. I think I will order a new unit for 94.00 and replace it. I will look at the old one to see if I can repair it and use it for spare. Thanks for the help.
