I just bought a 1990 Prevost and I am in Heaven. Except when backing the beast up!
The brakes growl, shudder and grab. What could be causing this? Anybody? Thanks, Bob
Very common. The noise is most likely coming from the drum brakes and is very rare on disk brake coaches. The way to fix guaranteed: Replace all the linings, have all the drums turned so there are no cracks! Make sure all the linings have 45 degree bevels on the leading and following edges of all the blocks. Next carefully inspect all the suspension bushings. Replace all that are not new. They don't have to be bad just used to allow this kind of vibration. Use the brakes gently. Don't ride them on hills. And finally if they are damp they will still do it. Now to be realistic. I have seen brakes get better as the glaze from being hot (Riding down hills) wears off but realy its not repairable from a realistic stand point and wont cause braking performance problems. I sugest you live with it. Good Luck
