The parking brake on my M300 is a lever under the dash to the left of the steering column. It looks like you would set it by pulling up on the handle. I have the chassis manual, but there is nothing about how to release the brake. The lever doesn't have any buttons or triggers as far as I can tell.
I block the wheels any time I'm on a slope, but it would be nice to know how to release the brake in case someone sets it.
You have a driveshaft parking brake with a long cable that runs from the dash control down to the brake assy. that is at the back of the transmission. If you haven't activated this brake for some time, I'd be hesitant to do so. The cables had a habit of rusting inside the housing and getting dificult to move. They could be "set" by really pulling up on the lever, but the spring on the brake assy. isn't strong enough to push the cable back up the housing, leaving you with the parking brake partially applied. There is no release button on the control lever, it just snaps up by going over-center on it's pivot, to release it, you merely swing the lever down and it snaps over-center again. The knob on the end of the lever is to adjust the parking brake, turning the knob clockwise shortens the cable.
Thanks! That sounds just weird enough to explain why I couldn't figure it out. I'll check the cabling & lubricate as necessary. All of the springs in the rear brakes were replaced two months ago. Since I just purchased this last fall, the parking brake may have been checked out.
I just looked back and saw you have a M300 chassis which may/may not have a drive shaft type parking brake, a quick glance underneath should tell you for sure.
