We bought a used motorhome 3 weeks ago and the salesman was topping of the fluids before we left for home. He added about a pint of brake fluid to the resivor for the power steering. After i seen that i wasnt very happy but had to get going home, so next day i used a suction gun in resivor and refilled back and forth as ran motor between trying to get the brake fluid out.So do i need to further drain out the power steering pump?( there a drain plug somewhere and refill it completely? dumb salesman geez!!
Lossen line on gear or pump (either one) one is pressure the other is return and run a couple qts automatic trans flud thru it and it will be fine.John
Hello Dave F,
This person is asking what to do himself. Anyone can go to a garage and have it repaired so your answer is not very original.
I believe if there is a plug to drain the system this is the way to go. If not re-cycle
the fluid as many times as possible using dextronIII transmission fluid (which is the same as power steering fluid). The brake fluid would eventually attack the ruber seals but it is less harmfull as using transmission fluid in the brake system.
HERMAN: Who is trying to be original? I don't know of any plug to pull, the best way I know is to have it flushed as you don't want problems 2,000mi from home. I get my system flushed every 2 - 3 years and am only charged $20.00, there are other things that I won't do as I don't have the tools to do them in a correct manner.
