I have recently replaced the master cylinder and power steering pump on my 37' 1993 bounder with a p30 454ci, all disc brakes. The hydro booster system seems to be working fine and the brakes feel firm. I drove it for the first time since the repair and after about 1.5 miles the brakes applied by themselves and I came to a full stop. When I opened the bleeder valve on the passenger side caliper It released the brakes and I could return home. I've replace the brake lines and it still continues to happen. What could be causing this lockup, it feels like the auto engage.
I was moving my 1993 winnebago Brave today to a new storage place and all of sudden the brakes started to lock up and time I got off the road smoke was coming out the engine cowling. It is on Chevy p30. How do I unlock them?. It is sitting i a vacant lot now. It hadn't hardly been moved in 2 years.
I agree with what has been said so far. The relief ports in the master cylinder are covered. You don,t have enough brake pedal free play. Adjust the linkage between the pedal and the master cylinder to specs. That should fix the problem.
I have not worked on a P30 with tour brake system but.... It sounds like the master cylinder is not releasing the fluid. The brake rotors warm up and grow slightly and so on. On the older ones the push rod from the brake peddle to the booster or from the booster to the master was what caused these problems. This will sound weird but next time it locks up crawl under the dash and disconect the brake peddle momentarily. Or check the adjustment if it has one. Good Luck
I have a 1988 Bounder. Had new front calipers and hoses put on last year. ran fine all the way from Fl to KY. Took a short trip last week and the front left brake was locking up. Bled it out about three times to get home. Keeps locking up. Replaced front left caliper, drove home about 12 miles, locked up again...
While driving, come to stop sign and apply brakes-need excessive pressure. Upon starting away, screech of tires from front brake lockup. start up on grass surface, left front tire digs in and ploughs dirt.
Is the problem at the wheel or at the master cylinder?
Hi, i have a 1996 chevy p30 step van 6 cyl. i re placed all front suspention and i no the brake calipers where hanging from the hose, after putting it back together my front brakes locked up
, what could it be, thanks for the help
I have a 92 Southwind with p30 chassis and had the same problem. Turned out to be the flexible hose from the chassis to the brake caliper. Looked good on outside, but rubber had broken down inside hose. Replaced hose and it's fine. Talked to a mechanic friend who said he's seen several of these. Disk brakes don't have check valves in the master cylinder so if you can loosen the bleeder and it lets off pressure releasing the brake then replacing the flexible hose should fix it.
Have 1978 Itasca motor home same thing. Brakes lock up, then I open the bleeders and it releases. The thing is, I have replaced all hoses in the rear and some of the metal tubing, but doing the same thing, Is it the master or hidrobuster or there is some kind of valve off the masteer?
I have a 1979 P30 Motor Home. The front left brake locks up. I replaced the caliper, pads (burned up), flexible hose. Only items left is the hard tubing to the master cyclinder and of course the master cyclinder itself. The master cyclinder is in a very difficult spot to get to beside the left side of the engine.
Replaced hydro booster on 1985 Winnie chieftain and now brake lights stay on. Will try bleeding however anything else I should check after a hrdro replacement
