Electric brakes wires chewed John Cavallo 7-6-08
I have a 2006 Surveyor camp trailer. When I got underneath it this season to drain the water tank I noticed my brakes wires were getting chewed up by some type of rodent. Are these wires easy to replace? Will I have to remove the wheels?

As long as there is enough un-damaged wire sticking out of the backing plates no. If you need to replace wiring into the backing plates you will need to pull the drums off. The wires need to routed carefully in the drum so every thing works as it needs to. Be very carefull to route exactly as original. You will probably find that the magnets fall off the arms when the drums come off. There are clips to hold them on durring assembly available from virtually any RV supply shop that works on electric brakes. Less than 5 bucks for four. The wires in the axle tubes are easy to fish through. Usually a speacial two conductor wire, again anyone that works on these will have some. No big deal to fish them, just be carefull to not loose the old before fishing the new through. If you do the best bet is several zip ties and locate the wire on the back of the axle. When you are done check operation by jacking each wheel and insureing the brakes apply. Good Luck

Okay sounds good. I'm thinking I might just be able to splice the wires or just tape up the least damaged ones. Is there a good method to varmint proof those wires since they do sit exposed behind the wheels? Thanks for the info.

We have 2004 coachman camper, when we plug the camper to the pickup there is a clicking noise in one wheel(souns like a circuit breaker)when we step on the break there is a buzzing sound, are there breakers in the wheels?
and what would cause the buzz?
