4L60E acting goofy Jeff 2-18-08
Hello. i have a 1994 c/k1500 with a 4L60E trans. Once in awhile, it feels like the trans downshifts into low as there is a noticable "bump". This only happens while at at stop sign or light, etc. I have also noticed a "bump" when stopping or starting from a stop. I talked to several GM mechanics and no one seems to know why this happens. I have replaced engine, trans and suspension mounts with polyeurathane(?), cleaned and greased the slip yoke, new u-joints, pretty much everything and it still does this "bump". any suggestions? Thanks!

I hadn't heard about a noticeable coast down bump in this trany. In most transmisions what you are feeling is the first gear engagement. In most tranys it is normal ignore it unless it is severe, then it can be adjusted or modified by a competent trany guy. Usually by pulling the valve body and modifying how it engages first gear. If it is waiting to go to first untill you step on the throttle that may indicate an adjustment problem in the control system or a sticking valve etc. Again a good trany guy can fix it. Unless you are seeing other evidence of trouble I personally would ignore it. Good Luck
