Overdrive problem Pat 12-28-07
I have a 1997 K2500 4x4 Chevy. When going up a hill, passing while at speed or increasing throttle when already at 2000 RPM the transmission will, instead of downshifting from overdrive into high gear, will shift, or slip into no gear and the engine will quickly over rev. If I press the accelerator all the way down it will kick into gear and hold. I can also move the gear selector to 3rd and it will hold. Is this a problem with the TCC switch, Torque Converter, or something else?
Thank you in advance.

Well ole boy,

Their a lock up torqconvrt solenoid
to which controls this condition. If you have a 4L80E transmission you have to drop the pan and in the casing their
on the engine side closer to passnger
side door, now mine have a hiding clip
in a then crack to which you have to
pull out and that solenoid will side right out, beside the one you buy look
just like it with the same wiring connection. That should take care of your problem, you could also change the overdrive solenoid if the make one.
This job you can do at home if you have
mechanic abilities, also I would replace the filter and fluid. To which should be changed every 5-6 thousand miles I do mine every other oil change
because the fluid isn't heat driven like the engine from burning gas.
This is about all the information I can offer you.

Jim

I changed torque converter solenoid and the transmission control solenoid, now the problem is worse. Slip as soon as it goes into overdrive.
No overdrive solenoid in this trans.
Everything was put back together correctly.
