Leaking Allison Transmission Don Adams 3-29-07
I have a 2003 Bounder on a Workhorse Chassie with a 1000 series Allison Transmission. I recently noticed a small pool of transmisson fluid on the drive way. Further inspection revealed a very faint leak of transmission fluid around an area where some type of electronic sensor enters the transmisson housing near the rear of the housing on the passenger side of the vehicle. Does anyone know if this sensor can be removed and the gasket or grommet be replaced as a do it yourself job??

Thanks in Advance

Don

It would be rare for this sensor to leak, although it is easily removed, the only seal is an o-ring.The likely source would be the breather located at the top rear of the trans main case.It could be cause by the absence of a vent hole in the dipstick. Some Allisons will leak at start up in cold conditions. This is an easy fix, just drill a small hole about 1 1/2 inch from the top of the dipstick tube.
