I have an 01 3500hd with 6.5 L diesel. My overdrive works fine for about 10 minutes than it down shifts into third and won't come back. I have to stop, turn off, and restart. Than it will work again untill it shifts into third.
You have a bad activator solinoid in the valve body or a wiring problem between the comp and the solinoid. If not one of those two you may have a bad tourque converter lock up clutch.
Easiest way to diagnose is to have a specilist check the comp for codes and while it is operating

I have 2000 chevy, 2500, 90K, bought used. when the tranny fuid gets hot the tucks shifts really, flush and filled trainy and changed filter, problem came back after 800 miles...any input
