I have an 87 holiday rambler 36ft. with a ford 460 and a c6 trans.. On the highway rpms are way to high for my liking is there anyway to change to a 4 spd automatic or is there an overdrive that can be added to this trans. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
"Gear Vendors" manufactures an overdrive (and underdrive) unit for your trans. You could change the trans to a later 4sp, but they are all computer controlled. You may want to consider that the engine is probably operating within its most economical range under most conditions. Overdrive units (including 4spd trans)are not typically used in high-range under a load...and a loaded motorhome constitutes a load. You may find the motorhome underpowered with an overdrive. And, slowing the RPMs may increase fuel use if more throttle is required to maintain road speed. Camping World sells the Gear Vendor products, as do most large RV outlets. Hope this helps. JR
