6V vs 12V Batteries - Help Pat 6-22-08
We want to replace our batteries in our 1998 Bounder. We noticed that we had 2 6v batteries. We think it was strange sinced our travel trailer had 2 12v batteries. Could we replace our 6v batteries with 2 12v batteries? We don't want to damage our rv.

Short answer is yes you can. Two 6-volt batteries wired in series and two 12-volt batteries wired in parallel give you a 12 volt battery bank with extra capacity. (the ability to draw current for a longer time)Which system you decide to use is a matter of personnel preference. You can start arguments over which is better. General rule of thumb, more expensive gets better construction and more capacity. Read the battery specifications. Do not buy "marine" batteries; they are the same as "golf cart" batteries at a higher price. I have used both, my vote is 2 sixes. Do some research, go with what you feel comfortable with, both systems work quite well. Here is some more information.
