I've just started converting an MC8 and am undecided about retaining the lavatory. At the very least I will be moving the front wall about 6" forward so we don't have to squeeze sideways through the door -- and adding timber panelling or similar to cover up the expanse of stainless steel.
However it still leaves the problem of using a system for several days, that was designed to be emptied once or twice a day and this obviously means that there will be odour problems to overcome because the tank is not sealed off from the bowl. It can be overcome by fitting a smaller fan and operating it continuously but I would appreciate any feedback as to whether it is all worth the trouble or whether I should just scrap the lot and build a new one using a casset system or modern unit with a new black tank.
I just stripped out an MC9 and just junked the whole washroom. There doesn't seem to anything worthwhile keeping, except maybe the airvalve on the washroom door.
Much better and easier to install an RV toilet and black water tank.
Yes -- you are probably correct, and I had started to dismnantle it. It was a question of whether it was easier to leave it there and do it up a bit, or take it all out. I think MCI must build the lavatory first, sit it up on blocks and then build the whole bus around it. A big hammer, pry-bar and an angle grinder is certainly needed and I'm still not sure whether the tank is going to come out the side door in one piece -- that is today's job
We have an expression "... is built like a brick shithouse" -- usually meaning something made a lot stronger or more elaborate than it needs to be. In future I propose to say "... is built like an MCI shithouse".
I WOULD TAKE IT OUT FIRST LESSON LEARN HOW TO SWEAR IF YOU DON"T KNOW HOW OR YOU FORGOT IT WILL COME BACK TO YOU VERY SHORTLY ON THE BOTTON OF THE HOLDING TANK I CUT THE FIBERGLASS COVER AND THEN I COULD GET TO THE FOUR BOLTS THAT ARE TUCKED UP INSIDE ONCE YOU GET THOSE OUT YOUR BLOOD PREASURE GOES BACK TO ALMOST NORMAL
Even though this discussion is dated, maybe you guys still check in occasionally? I'd like to know - now that you've been down the road aways - how things turned out. Did you go with a new RV type toilet? Are you glad you did ? Etc.
