Opinions please regarding best bus to convert to an all around RV under 20k? Eagle, Prevost, Van Hool or Jonckheere, maybe others? I like the highway designs best.
I don't think you can ever find THE best bus to convert. I think you will find there are some buses that will be easier to convert than others.
Since MCI has built more highway buses than any other manufacturer, MCI buses tend to be less expensive. Also, MCI supports what they sell and still has parts available for almost every bus they have ever sold.
GM built a lot of buses for a lot of years. Their designs utilized a lot of stainless steel so a lot of their buses are still out on the road. Except for the last series of RTS buses the GM buses all used the V-drive which can be good or bad depending upon your viewpoint.
Prevost makes a very good coach. Several custom manufacturers purchase brand new empty shells from the Prevost factory and make conversions out of buses that were never used as buses. Which mean you can build a conversion that looks a lot like a million dollar custom coach for a lot less money.
The more modern looking European designs such as the Van Hool, Setra, and others are difficult to convert. If you are a tall person they may not be a good choice at all. In order to make the bays as large as they are the inside height is less than that found in other makes. With the overall height higher than buses like the MCI and Prevost buses, the potential for a roof raise is not worth the effort since you would be gaining so little.
The older buses such as Eagle, Flxible, Beck, Mack, and others are good choices if the bus bodies are in good condition. Since all of those manufacturers are out of business or no longer make buses, parts and pieces can be a problem.
The only person who can make the determination of which bus is the best buy for under $20K for you is you.
Looking for a quote for your latest Coach bus model. I would like to purchase a bus that can travel at least twice a week from Seattle to Las Vegas, nevada (e.g.). This bus must be equipped with a top for the kitchen area, almost like the airline's, two portable toilets-one male, one female. Bus Size must be at its fullest length to hold 50 or more people. some extras- some screen TV's- on the back of the bus, must be equipped with spaces for a telephone so that every customers can use them at their conveniences or where permitted. One last thing (very important!!), make few seats reserve for first classes. Note--- I do not want an RV camper!! I want a well equipped coach bus specially made. Thank you. I await for your quote.
Respectfully yours,
Herod Telusnord
I have an Eagle10 shell with the insulation already in place. I need to cut the excess out. What kind of saw or blade can I use for this job? This is the yellow hard foam that has set up and overflowed the ribs of the shell and needs to be trimmed to allow placement of walls 563-556-6418 or JDolehide@aol.com
