Are they any good to convert into a RV. it has 8V71 DD with 4 spd manual which is supposed to be better on fuel.
Anything I should look for on this paticular bus that is known to be a problem?
Is this worth $6500 if it runs nice with very minimal rust?
I wanted something a little newer.any suggestions on where to look.
Hi Jim, I have heard someone say that a Conversion will cost about twice what the Chassis costs to purchase!
My thought is that an 8 cylinder is not going to give you economy, especially one going on 40 years old. I would suggest something newer and maybe consider an RTS model, as they are plentiful and by shopping around you may get something newer and better.
I found an Eagle 10 in excellent condition for under 10K and have seen them even lower. Look for engine and trans. reliability, they cost the most.
Ron........
I own a MCIB, which is pretty much the same as an "A". I get about 6.5 MPG.
You can spend $75,000 if you want to convert it, or you can spend just what you want to if you don’t want it fancy.
Build up the air pressure and shut it off. Wait and see how long it takes to lean down on one side or lower its self in the front. This will tell you if you will have a problem with the air suspension. It can get very costly if the air boxes over the axels are leaking. (Must be welded) If it stays up for a few days, it isn’t too bad, but you should look to make sure the air valves or bags are the culprits.
Also check where the engine frame is welded to the rear suspension, they have a tendency to crack there.
