Just bought a 1407 and it ran fine the 120 miles I drove it. The next day it started up on firt turn, but I shut it off before it warmed up and let it set for another day. Now it will not start. Anyone have any suggestions?
A diesel engine is much simpler to troubleshoot than a gas engine. You need air, fuel, and compression. If you don't have all three, you don't get any combustion.
You indicate everything was working fine when you shut down the other day. In that case, I think you can pretty much eliminate air and combustion problems. Which leaves a fuel problem.
When you shut your bus down your fuel shut off valve may have stuck in the closed position. Or perhaps you are not getting current to the valve in order to open it so you can get fuel.
The only other thing is you may have hit the emergency shut off air valve when you shut down. The emergency shut down valve blocks all air to the engine. If it is closed the engine will not start.
Now that you have cranked and cranked, put a charger on your batteries before you do anything else. The faster you crank the engine the more likely it will be the engine will start when you get everything else working correctly.
You need to see if you blew the prime on the fuel system it is common to have happen, unscrew the primary filter and see if the fuel level is slightly low if it is you blew the prime. this is normally caused by having a bad line allowing the system pressure to bleed off.
It is also possible that you have a bad skinner valve to your fuel shut off.
Thses valves work by using air to shut off the engine. Usually the bus will run until the air builds up, and then "click" it goes off. There is a plate on top of your motor, with several air cylinders on it. Find the one that controls the fuel flow to the motor, and remove the bolt that secures the
arm for the fuel. Now that it is loose, just repostion the arm away fro the tip of the air cylindar that would normally shut off the fuel, and see if it will run. This will answer your question if the bus starts.
CAUTION !!!!! You must shut the engine off by manually moving the arm. If you have a over head squirrel cage blower, BE CAREFUL OF THE BELTS !!!!
