I have a 1987 winnebago 26 Chieftain?
with new brakes and bearings all a around
The passenger side rear drum gets very hot 330' all the other drums and disks are around 130'with normal driving no traffic. The brakes are not dragging and bearings and oil are brand new. and Ideas?? or is this normal.
Please help
If the drum itself is hot the shoes are dragging, even if it makes no noise and you can't feel it. look for re-used springs and sticky or stuck cylinders for the hydraulics. If it is the bearing area you have an over heating over tight or failing bearing. At 330 degrees it is cooking the oil or gease and is in need of replacment regardless of what you have been told. These tempuratures for brake drums is not disasterous but bearings are getting ready to throw the wheels accross 4 lanes of trafic and kill some body. Good Luck Please fix it before it kills you.
All the bearings oil and brake parts are brand new today. I watched them being installed. Both rear wheels free spin without any drag. There is no brake drag smell either. Is there anything else I can look at
Thanks
Jim Bubba is right on, also check exhaust for any leak near the hub. It may be dragging after the brakes are applied a few times. also sometimes the parking break can give you fits. Recheck bearing adjustments for proper clearance. Good Luck Mike
I have limited mech. knowledge! on my 94 ford e350 chassis. Mine was in the emergency brake cable not releasing well. Suggestions were lube the cable if possible not getting any into the brake housing or per my mech. he has seen the brake tighten with bounce of that cable as it has the most play (large loop) around that axle.
