I have made a homemade cold air intake for for 2.9L truck. It works well but then I tried something else. I put the air cleaner cone right on the air intake port on the manifold. Is this a good idea or should the air have a channel to ensure air flow?
If it works, it's a good idea. This would remove turbulance between the air filter and the intake, so in theory you'd get more airflow.
This set up is a problem if you have a mass airflow sensor (MAF), but not a problem at all if you have a manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP). You can tell the difference by where they are mounted. If the sensor is mounted inline with the air filter, it's a MAF.
