Today (suddenly) my speedometer needle won't move, the odometer is completely blank, and the "OFF" light on the gear shift lever (indicating O/D) has started flashing. I've checked all the fuses in the cab and under the hood and they seem ok. I've also looked under the truck for loose or disconnected wires, and everything looks a-ok. Any thoughts?
All 3 of these things are related thru the Power Speedometer/Odometer Module (PSOM). As a first step, check your owner's manual and find the fuses related to the PSOM and make sure they are OK.
It is pretty rare for a PSOM to fail, but since they are typically located near the floor of the driver's footwell, they are vulnerable. Since you've checked the fuses already, it might be that the module has gotten soaked, cracked or disconnected. If the speed sensor had been damaged or disconnected, the odometer would still show a value, the speedometer wouldn't work and the OD light would be flashing.
My truck is having the same symptons except in addition the transmition is shifting hard at high RPM's, even though I'm going slow. Not normal. The mechanic says it's not the transmition.
