Coleman furnace shuts off when carbon build-up occurs by Evelyn
Post New Message Hello. I purchased my new Coleman furnace from Sears almost two years ago. During the first winter it shut off! I was stunned-I had just purchased a new furnace so that I could have peace of mind, and here it has stopped working. The service person finally arrived and he said that when the flame is on it makes contact with a filament. Over time this filament accumulates carbon. When the buildup is too much the automatic action for the furnace is to shut down! I did not purchase a new furnace for it to shut down on its own. What if it happens when I am away? That was March 2007. I had it cleaned in November. And then it shut off again this January. A service call person came again and identified it as the same problem. He said that this is they way they build new furnaces now and that nothing can be done. But this is not right. The furnace should not be randomly shutting down. I have been trying to resolve this with Sears, ie replace this with a furnace that will not shut down, but so far no luck. If, as the service man said, that this is common, are there any of you that have encountered this?
Please advise and thank you.
