I just bought a 1995 Ford 5.0L motor trans and transfer case. The truck ahd only 47,000 miles on it. I bought it for the price for one ($200.00) and the other for mayber putting it in my Ranger. Would the gas milage be better that putting a 4.0 swap or just doing the V8 swap? Thoughts please. Is this a good or bad idea/
No matter how efficient you made that 5L, it's still a heavier motor. If your goal is fuel efficiency, you're better off with the 4L. Personally, I wouldn't be able to keep my foot out of the 5L, so even if it was more efficient, I'd be burning gas like a maniac ;-)
The Explorer had the 5L V8 as an option in '94, so you can probably make it fit in your truck using the Explorer parts. 1987 may be a tighter fit, so you really need to look at your clearances.
