I have a 1986 Bronco II, A4LD transmission. I recently rebuilt the tranny, I had solid reverse, 1st and 2nd. When I put it in drive it seems to start in 3rd. When I manually shift, i have 1st and a strong shift into 2nd. When I shift into 3rd, it does nothing, seems to be trying and struggling to shift and throws back into 1st or 2nd. Please help.
There are few things to check. 1st check oil level when running, 2nd check the modulator in the rear of the trans that has the vacuum line running to it, 3rd check the vacuum line for leaks, 4th make sure the wires are connected to the transmission on the drivers side right behind the bell housing. If this is not plugged in the computer will not lock up the converter and the trans will not shift. Finally, if everything else checks out then the bands on the trans maybe to tight and might needs to be adjusted.
