I've never tried this, so I don't know for sure. At first blush, the answer would be "No", since the stroke is longer in the 4L motor and the bore is larger than in the 2.9L. Ford doesn't build "Oversquare" (bore greater than stroke), they tend to build "Square"(bore = stroke) or "Undersquare" (bore less than stroke) motors. Of course, this could just mean that the block needs to be clearanced like you were building a stroker motor.
