Help need advise!! we went to change the lower hose of the radiator of our 87 ford 460 big block...and found oil mixed in with the water, and also causing the hose to get soft..

what would cause this? it has stamped lifters, which our sideways, which eliminates the idea of the cracks in the head gasket??? where else does oil meet water in this engine?

There maybe a crack in the head gasket that is letting oil bypass into the water passages. If the vehicle is getting hot then yes it is a blown head gasket but if not the head gasket is leaking oil into the water passage.

Hope this helps.

What year 460? If it's an EFI engine, this is a classic lower intake manifold leak.

Stamped valve covers doesn't mean anything; even the EFI engines had stamped valve covers.

Hope that helps!

Did you check the trans. oil cooler, and --or engine oil cooler, part of the radiator ! mike

Run the engine with the radiator cap off for 10 - 15 minutes. Look for signs of bubbling out of the radiator caused by pressurized gas leaking through the head gasket. It may be bad enough that it looks like a small geyser. A blown head gasket is the most likely cause.
