I have a 97 ford ranger with I think to be a bad thermostat(no warm air at all, I am trying to replace it myself but it seems to be realy hard to get to. it's the 4 cylinder 2 wheel drive, any advice?
From what I remember about coolant systems- check for sure that is it-- warm the engine and feel the top radiator hose- is it warm? If not probably thermostat. Check to make sure the coolant is up where it should be that can do it too.
If it is warm and the level is up, it is probably something else.
Starting in '95, the heat blend door in Ford trucks is driven by an electric motor (The heat blend door actuator). It is notorious for going bad and either stickling in the full "Hot" or full "Cold" positions.
If the top radiator hose gets hot when the engine warms up and the temp gauge needle is in the middle of the range, then the blend door motor has failed.
I AM TRYING TO REPLACE RADIATOR AND THERMOSTAT IN FORD RANGER TRUCK 1998.I AM NOT SURE WHERE THERMOSTAT IS LOCATED AND HOW DO YOU FLUSH COOLANT SYSTEM.
