I have the same issue with my '00 Taurus. I back flushed and forward flushed last year. Also replaced the thermostat which I checked against the new one, and while it opened at just a bit higher temperature (you can test them in your oven), it still opened all the way. So did the new one (I tested that too!)
Heat might have got marginally better, but didn't improve much. This year, still feels terrible. I too have to be going 75 to get any heat at all. I felt the hoses both coming and going from the heater core, and they were both so hot I could only hold them for a second.
I haven't checked the doors inside as, but I don't feel like that's the problem on mine, as I can hear them operate and the air will change temperature, just not much. Guess I will check it anyway just to rule that out.
Also, can you actually get to the heater core without a major dash tear down to see if that is the problem? I figure if it don't feel hot, then you could be sure its plugged.
I have noticed that my water does brown up fast, so I suspect this rusting of the impeller may be an issue on mine as well, but I'd hate to change the water pump this time of the year!
Oh, yes, I even went so far as to block off the grill openings to see if that would help. Nada! |
