I have a 1985 Ford Establishment with the same generator. I just recently bought it. It did the same thing to me last week and I pulled the spark plug 4-5 times and cleaned the wet fuel off it and ran it for several seconds to blow the excess fuel out of the cylinders. Messed with it somemore and it would run for a few seconds after releasing the start swith. Finally just holding the start swith down it stayed running. I go once aweek to where I store my RV and start everything. This week it started fine. My guess is if it sits to long the carburetor gums up and causes the problem. Might want to spray some carburetor cleaner directly into the throat of the carburetor and wait a few minutes and then pull the spark plug and run it for 15-20 seconds to run the bad gas out of it.
