Jeff (who posted on 10/14/07), did you have to replace the waterpump? I used to work in a Ford garage in Michigan. We had a LOT of problems with brown coolant and loss of heat. Most common: plugged heater core, second, water pump fins rusted off. You may need a full (very expensive) coolant flush with a myriad of chemicals used by Ford in a "bulletin" issued specifically for 96-98 Taurus that needed a bypass hose installed as well. The problem was supposedly "cured" by 99 and was not an issure. BS. My 99 is doing the exact same thing: only get heat with raised engine speed. My guess: waterpump, and I only have 39,000 miles! |
