Was running great. sat for two years. ran fine when it was fired up. the next time i tried to start it it wouldn't stay running. replaced the fuel pump filter and spaark plugs. still will not stay running. backfires out the air intake. lots of pressure from the fuel pump. stays running when gas put in throttle body till burned up. the new spark plugs are black again in just a few times of trying to get it going. Help please. husband wants to push it off a cliff. only has 29,000 original miles.
This model yaer Ford had problems with the ignition control module and that could be what's causing your problem; This should be an EFI engine and if it is, then it's OBD1 so you can pull codes and see what it going on electronically.
Look for codes having to do with the ignition system; that will point to an ignition control module problem. If you see anything oddball (EGR flow, for example) you might have a collapsed catalytic converter.
