Does anyone know what the air pumps do on my 1987 mallard motor home it has a 454 engine i know it is called air injection and it helps cool the exhaust system but what else does it do?
It helps in passing the smog check stations.. I just replaced all my hoses and gotthe air pumps working again.. and have located a manual which has 300 pages on this system.. for what Im seeing is that, it pushes air to the exhaust system to keep them cooler, pulls in any unused gas back in to the carbs when I went to have it smoged after I fixed all my hoses, the guy show me I was not putting out as much smog as before...but a carb adjustment would do the same thing..
