I have a 1993 Coronado with a Chevy 454 engine. My temperature gauge does not rise above 100 degrees while running. I understand there is a separate sending unit for the dash gauge that has one lead from it. Can someone tell me where it is and how to test it?
The one in the dash is the GUAGE, the one on the engine is the SENDER UNIT,
1= check the fuses
2 with the key on, engine not running, ground the sending unit to ground & watch if the gauge move all the way to HOT.(the sending unit got a single wire on it)
3= If so the thermostat may be missing or stuck open & the engine is not getting at the right temperature. the sending unit may be bad.

Take the lead off the sender and ground it. The gauge should shoot up to its highest reading. If it doesn't you have a wiring problem or a gauge problem. If it does, you either have a sender problem or your thermostat is sticking open and you're underheating.
I think I found the sending unit with one dark green lead. Do I ground the unit or take the lead off the sender unit and ground the lead to ground?
Thanks, Luther
