Duo-Therm Cool Cat A/C Squealing Toby Schnitker 6-25-07
Looking for some advice regarding the A/C in my pop-up camper. It is a Duo-Therm Cool Cat Heat Pump A/C. This is not a roof-mount model, but rather an "under the cabinet" mount. After doing a lot of searching, it appears that this type of A/C is rare. As a matter of fact, the only other camper I have seen with one of these was for sale on eBay. It's almost like a home A/C window unit that also heats and it run via a thermostat. Nonetheless, my problem is that it started "squealing" for lack of a better term this weekend while camping. It is still blowing cold air, but it is now loud and annoying. I am afraid that it is going to quit at any minute from the sounds of it.

I am absolutely dumbfounded when it comes to working on something like this. To me, it sounds like a car does when a belt is loose or needs replaced. Do A/C's have belts in them to spin the fan? I am going to unscrew the cover off of it tonight and see if I see anything unusual. I honestly don't know what I am looking for, but I never know if my 2 year old has dropped something through the front vents, yada yada yada.

This is something I would like to fix myself if at all possible. While searching the net, I did find a users manual for it which had a phone number to the manufacturer. I called the number looking for the nearest service location, and it seems that it is two hours away.

I am not planning on camping for another 4 weeks, so I have some time to get it fixed. Any ideas on what would be causing a squealing noise? Easy enough fixes? Any ideas on what I should be looking for when I open it up?

Your expertise is greatly appreciated. I would love to spend my money enhancing my kids summertime camping vacation next month rather than paying an RV Dealer to fix my A/C with outrageous labor costs. Nine times out of ten, it's something simple that I could have fixed on my own with just a little direction.

Regards,
tex

Re: Duo-Therm Cool Cat A/C + heat pump Wayne 5-24-08
Hi, I have imported a Tab trailer into Australia which has a 120 v input to a 3 way converter then to the Air Con heat pump cool cat air con unit, Australia uses 240 volt power, what do I have to do to convert this unit from 120v input to 240 volt ?
Any ideas?

Regards Wayne
