My check engine soon light came on in Sept and has stayed on. Last summer my O/D off light started flashing and the speedometer didn't work and the transmission wouldn't shift. Had trans fluid changed and problem stopped. Started again this week. Seems to only happen when weather is hot and car is idling. Mechanic checked trans and said ok. says EGR valve or sensor is problem. Can there be a connection?
No, there is no connection between the O/D light and the check engine light if the check engine light is on because of the EGR valve.
Your car uses OBD2, so there are specific codes for the transmission as well as the engine (engine and transmission will show "P" codes and "C" codes will have additional transmission codes). The first place to start is to pull all the codes; if the check engine light is on all the time, there is a hard fail. If the EGR was the problem, the fuel computer would pass "Prove out" and the check engine light would be off until the car warmed up.
My check engine soon light is illuminated on my 99 Taurus LX. I do not want to fix the problem, I just want to disconnect the light. How do I go about doing that?
My 99 Taurus stays with the check engine light on. It will not go away. We changed the sensors and we are still having the same issue. The car shut off if it is in idle mode ex. I am waiting at a light after a min it shuts off. I found a trick to this problem as long as the as/heat is pushing it will not shut off. I have been doing this for about 3 \ 4 months. Ant idea what would be causing this issue.
