My black water drain valve does not seem to close fully for first time. New rig 3 yrs. old. Leaks small trickle. Can it be a seal or replace the valve?
Check first for paper or other debris in the area where the slide seats.Even when clear, sometimes mine is tough to completely close just from a lack of lubrication. That last bit of travel has to shove a lot of seal out of the way. Never tried it but I would think a mild soap would be worth a try as a lube. Good luck.
The other gentleman covered one part of my response, drain it completely and wash it out thoroughly, then inspect the slide area for packed debris. If after a thorough cleaning of ALL the slide area, it still won't seal, then I would personally replace the whole valve so as not to have to mess with it again if a seal fails to do the trick. If you do this yourself, be VERY careful to not over-tighten the bolts when putting the new valve on. If you tighten too much, you'll crack the plastic immediately around the bolt holes making newer leaks, and possibly causing you to replace the pipe behind the valve that goes to the tank. On some rigs this is not a big deal, but on most, it is. Try the cleaning and visual inspecting (use small mirror?) first. Good luck.
