The odometer on my class A stopped rolling over, adding miles. What are the legal problems when installing a new 0 mileage speedo?
Most state Department of Motor Vehicles have a form that is filled out upon the installation of a new speedometer stating the mileage of the replaced unit and the date it was installed. This information is entered into the vehicle's record in their computer. Before purchasing a new unit, and if the road speed function is OK, I'd remove the old unit and take it to a speedo shop and get an estimate of repair. The odometer function is seperate from the speed function and consists of a gear train of five or six gears, operating at ratios of 10:1. If you have a digital dash, the present odometer reading is transfered to the new unit prior to installation.
