I too have a heating problem with my daughter's 97 Taurus. After reading the treads, it does appear that this is a common manufacturing defect, with at least 3 root causes. 1-Waterpump defective, 2-Blend door actuator failure, 3-Plugged heater core.
As soon as I fix this thing, I will create a troubleshooting guide for those who experience this problem. I do have several question for those who have gone before me--For those who discoverd they had a bad waterpump--Did the car's temp remain in the normal range when you drove it? Did both heater hoses feel warm to the touch?
For those with bad heater cores, did your hoses feel warm to the touch?
Thanks,
