After flushing the system myself and replacing the thermostat, still did not have heat. Eventually had the heater core flushed and still did not solve problem. The problem ended up being in the water pump. Fins were rusted off and only letting enough water to go through to prevent overheating. Replaced water pump and had heat... Hope this helps.
