When I turn the switch on, nothing happens. The only thing done to it before this started was a solenoid swtch put on. The negative battery cable connects to the side of the motor home with a short cable, then a longer cable takes it & connects to the very back of the transfer case and the frame. The positive cable connects to the left side of the switch. Another big black cable connected to the left of the switch is also connected to the starter relay. On the right side of the switch a big black cable is connected and goes back to the generator. A small wire is connected to the center of the switch and runs to the front of the motor home. It goes through the floor, I can't tell where to. Any advice appreciated.

From your description of the wiring, it appears that the relay described only connects the generator to the battery when current is provided to the small wire running to the front, either through the ignition switch, or another switching device. The two cables on the left of the relay are not controlled by the relay, it merely serves as a junction point for battery power to the starter. It sounds as if your rig is powered by a Chevrolet engine and has suffered the usual starter solenoid failure, that's the solenoid mounted on the starter.
