Fresh water pump relay switch?? Steve 6-5-01
I have a '93 Fleetwood Coronado. It has three separate switches that will turn on/off the water pump and none of them work. I am able to ground the pump and it will turn on. I am assuming the switches have a bad relay. I have spent several hours tearing apart everything and still can not find a relay switch. Any advice on where it could be loacated or how the switches work would be apprciated.

Sounds like u already found the problem--bad ground! I can think of no reason to have a relay in the water pump system. Most likely, the switches are wired parallel. Just run a new ground for the pump, since u didn't mention running a hot jumper to it, I presume u used one of the switches to get power to the pump.

A relay makes sense if you don't want to run heavy gauge wire toall the pump activation switches. I added several other switches for the pump to my RV, (outside shower, inside bathroom). Rather than string 10 gauge wire around the rig, I used 16 gauge wire and a constant duty 20 amp rated relay, requiring only .5 amp activation. The only note of caution is to install a diode in the battery side of the relay as, when the current is shut off, the solenoid coil in the relay produces an induced current into the wiring, the diode blocks this.
