Aftermarket water heater conversion Bev 6-25-01
Got brand new trailer in '99. all fine til go to Colo. water heater lights, heats but pilot won't stay lit. also got lots of soot. manual said have dealer change orifice to high alt. but couldn't find anyone in Colo. at RV or propane dealer who understood. all said never saw such a problem. got home to Missouri and went to selling dealer. they advised aftermarket conversion so could work on elec. too. all fine and cleaned element regularly but now element gets so much buildup after only 1-2 nites that can't remove from main drain plug. have to remove main plug but can't get socket wrench to it so eventually rounded off corners on plug. went back to dealer. they now say they no longer install these aftermarket conversions and no longer use brass drain plugs. put in plastic drain plug and said use on propane only. guess that's fine but what happens now at high altitude? any suggestions?
