Injector bleeding Dennis 6-30-01
Am looking at a '72 conversion bus with a '75 Detriot
Diesel V6. The ole boy ran it out of fuel when he pulled
in the last time. Do I need to bleed at the injectors to
get this rig fired up so I can test drive it?

Thanks in advance,

Dennis

What modle engine, 6v71? 6v53? or one of the smaller units? In Canada if you dont either it don't start 7 months a year for the above models, at least in Alberta. I have on the above units seen the 71 series engins run in excess of 500,000 miles and get either with the chevron pills with half the cold starts ever made.

NO the DD is not like a small engine with a Bosch injection pump , where every injector has to be blead.

DD The fuel filters must be refilled , and it should catch.

DO NOT EVER use Ether starting fluid to get it running.
OR you will be replacing many pistons and compression rings.

The trick, after the filters are filled is to use WD 40 , as an extra fuel source.
Its only kerosene and works great.

My own personal method {I'm lazy} is to use a Mighty Vac ( made for bleeding brakes} to suck fuel from the tank right thru the top of the last filter to the engine.

Works quick , no worry about reseating the filter gaskets.

Good Luck

Thanks Fred! Didn't know about filling the filters or the trick with the Mighty Vac. I'll do it!
