E-350 Problems Scott 7-8-01
I recently purchased a 1993 Tioga Class C on a Ford E-350 chassis. The first 400 miles were great. All of a sudden, while on a trip, the engine lost power, sputtered and backfired, but did not stall. We limped to a repair shop and the fuel filter was replaced. We started again after a few miles the condition returned. This time we replaced the fuel pump. The inside of the tank was clean with no dirt or rust. This seemed to cure the problem, as we drove over 3000 miles. Yesterday, the same symptoms occurred again. This is less than 30 days since replacing the fuel pump! Has anyone experienced this problem? Any suggestions, advise of thoughts?

Jon Sends:
I also had a 1993 Ford E350 Tioga Montara with a similar problem. In the end, Ford replaced the entire, fuel system including the fuel tank.
It seems that whatever was used in the original tank to coat the inside of the tank was slowly flaking off and getting into the fuel system. This happened to a brand new vehicle in 1994 with less than 1000 miles on it and resulted in two wasted vacations and three tow trips to dealers. My local RV dealer that sold me the vehicle, finally offered a great deal on a 1995 Tioga if I would trade in the 1993. Just FYI,
the 1993 has had 5 owners since. jm
