Coleman or Dometic or carier??
If compressor bad, breaker would kick off. Could be a bad run condensor, there is a way to test them, but you have to know what you're doing. Take the outside cover off, then the small cover for the electrical conector and check for accumulation of dirt & moisture.
On the top of the compressor, the is a small cap with a thermo switch, check it out, can be test with a soldering gun & VOM.
Those are sealed unit, are not prone to leak as the automotive one.

We have had our motor home in storage for a few years. When it went in everything was working great..but now the air conditioner doesn't run. The fan will run just fine, but when we switch it to A/C the compressor starts up for a few seconds then quits. Any suggestions on what might be causing this? |
