Duo-Therm Furnace won't ignite A. Joseph 10-10-05
Hello to all. I have a Duo-therm furnace, a early 80's model, that the pilot will not light. Everything has been cleaned. When you hold the pilot primer down to light, it will go out instantly, and if you hold it in, it will just burn for a few seconds, and then goes out. Any thoughts?

My Duo-therm furnace model 65930-046 works well, but the blower is very noisy. I would like to oil the motor, or replace it if that doesn't work. Is a repair manual for this available? Can the motor be oiled without removing the whole furnace?
Re: Duo-Therm Furnace won't ignite Matt 12-6-07
Hi,
I Have a Duo-therm 90130-001 I cant seem to get it to light. I pulled off the front cover so i could check through the site glass. When i turn the thermostat up after a few seconds the blower starts then i hear a click i am assuming is the pilot gas selonoid opening but i dont see anything light and i can smell gas a little. I hear a second click can smell gas a little and still no light then i hear a third click and then the blowers just keep running but no more clicking or smells.

i THink what is happening is the gas selonoid is opening but the pilot is not igniting.. so it switches off blows for a few seconds opens again.. pilot fails then it just clicks off. How can i test my pilot to see if it is getting power? Where should i check with my meter? should i just check it at the terminals where it connects to the ignitor assembly and what should i see there for current??

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

Matt

Duo therm Mod.90025-823 Ser.837289 On a long weekend the furnace worked fine for 2 days and then the last night the blower would kick on but the burner would not ignite. Plenty of battery but no ignition. Propane seems good as stove and frig work. What voltage is required to fire the gas valve and igniter. When the fan runs I notice a voltage drop. Have no manual for the furnace so any help would be appreciated.

1980 Nomad Duo-Therm furnace, pilot lights and continues to stay lit so the thermo-coupler has to be good. When the thermostat is turner up for heat demand, the burner fails to egnite before the fan kicks on and blows out the pilot.

Re: Duo-Therm Furnace Model 65930-064 cleaning combustion chamber Mike 1-1-09
My Duo Therm furnace (1982) lights but there is a distinct odor of unburned propane. It sat for about a year before I bought it. The manual says that the combustion chamber should be cleaned yearly, but it doesn't tell you how to access the chamber. I am concerned that the burner may have a problem or the mixture may not be right. I am sure it has not been cleaned in over a year. Anyone have an idea about where I should begin to address this problem?
Duo-Therm Furnace runs fine for a while - then won't run at all Ray 1-17-09
I have a 89 Glendale 29' travel trailer with duo-therm furnace thermostat. Air conditioning isn't part of the thermostat. Electric ignition on furnace. I start the furnace, all runs well.. for about a half a day..then it won't come back on. I suspect the thermostat is fault, as I opened it a piece fell. Since this thermostat controls just the furnace with an off at one end and tempature setting scale, what other type of thermostat can I use to replace this one.. its cold in here.

Re: Duo-Therm Furnace won't ignite Tex 10-14-05
The operative word here is thermocouple is believed to be ok. There is a tool to check the thermocouple available at most premium rv repair service centers. Most will test it for you free and then you will be sure. However since it is an inexpensive part, after two years of no use itís probably a good idea to change it.

If the thermocouple is changed or tested as good then the only thing left that governs the function of the pilot light is the gas valve.

The thermocouple sends a very small electrical signal in the area of.01 milliamps to the gas valve when heated telling the gas valve that it is lit.

A dirty furnace is likely to burn inefficiently or a bad air mixture may indeed cause a flame out on occasion but neither will affect the function of the pilot assembly.

-IF- you are getting a good strong pilot and the flame indeed touches the thermocouple it is most likely one of two things. The thermocouple or the gas valve. If it has been sitting for a long period in a cold climate the gas valve may have gone bad, thus not interpreting the signal from the thermocouple.

If your 100% sure the thermocouple is good replace the gas valve. If you are not experienced in this type of repair and do not own a manometer I highly recommend taking it too a professional as gas leaks can be very dangerous.

If I can be of any further help to you please feel free to email me at webmaster@fixmyrv.net

Good Luck, Tex
Re: Duo-Therm Furnace won't ignite jd 10-12-05
So does this furnace have a Pilot Light, then it flares into the heating flame when demanded by the thermostat?
If so, it needs some kind of Flame Sensor over the pilot to be sure it's burning. If not, shuts the gas off. There's probably a little time delay to allow the pilot flame to heat the sensor. So... if you light the pilot, and the sensor doesn't signal that it senses heat from it, the gas'll be shut off. Sensor could be mechanical or an electric thermocouple.
Take a look in www.bryantrv.com and the Service Documents, maybe you can find a useful manual or troubleshooting page.
God Bless, jd
Re: Duo-Therm Furnace lights but goes out constantly Scott 10-13-05
Furnace lights but doesn't burn right at the pilot and won't stay lit. thermocoupler is believed to be ok because once warm it will light with out holding pilot button down but won't stay lit. It almost seems to me that it is just dirty inside from two years of no use or it is an air fuel mix problem. any suggestions?

I have a 1982 camper trailer with a Duo Therm gas furnace. Model # 65925-056. Pilot lights and stays lit. Gas valve in open position. When I kick the thermostat on, fan comes on immediately, I thought there was a time delay to let the chamber get hot. Burner never ignites.

Duo Therm Furnace Model 659200-025 series Larry 10-10-14
In regards to this Duo Therm series I had run out of propane, refilled, removed unit to clean up for winter. I oiled the motor bearing cleaned everything then reassemble furnace. I topped propane furnace motor ran fine at full.speed minus propane. Once I got propane and ran furnace it runs about 30 to 40 seconds then flame shuts off, fan runs then slowly starts to stop. The fan does have a surge goes fast then slows. I then shut thermostat off. About five minutes or so I turn back on and this.cycles all over again. Please advise. I also have found a power cord attached to the 120v side, I have not plugged in as of yet. Is this model both 12v and 120v? Please advise of possible issues besides a new furnace. Thank you in advance for your help!
My number is 303-229-5783 to better explain issues. Take care and have a nice day!

Duo-Therm Furnace Shawn G 12-3-11
My wife and I just acquired a 1976 Dodge R.V. and it has a duo therm gas furnace in it. It has been working for the past 3 weeks, but we moved the R.V. and got parked for the night and I lit the pilot light as I have always done. and it ran great all night long, but this morning it came on again when it dropped temp in the unit and the fan came on, but the burner never came on to give it warm air. The pilot light stays on and never went out. I shut the unit off and ran throught the lighting sequence but no luck. The temp outside is 32 deg. Any thoughts?

Re: Duo-Therm Furnace won't ignite Phil Bannon 1-22-09
I have a 1984 Duo Therm Model 65940-067
Which has a fair working electric igniter. However, the gas valve will only allow gas into the chamber sporadically. Lights goes out lights and goes out and with each lighting the gas valve clicks.
Igniter quits sparking within a second after the fire goes out and or relights the gas if within the second. Bad gas valve?

I have a 1984 motor home with a 900 Series direct spark ignition Duo Therm furnace. Model # 90030-711A. When I set the thermostat higher, the fan starts within several seconds, but that is all. No heat. I've tried turning off the gas for 5 or 10 minutes and then going through the same process over & over for several hours, thinking that perhaps it might take the gas a while to get through that particular pipe since it hasn't worked for more than the 2 years we've it. All other propane appliances work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bob.

Re: Duo-Therm Furnace won't ignite Craig 8-19-10
Considering the date I would assume that someone has given you the info you needed but just in case. I rebuilt or replaced much of the gas and electric in our 78 Nomad. The furnace being one of those. I had to replace the gas regulator which is not all that different from the gas regulator on the house water heater. The big difference this the enclose space. I had to figure out how to get tools into the small space to uncouple the gas pipes and electric wire. It can be done, I did it and it world great. So if you haven't already, have fun.

WARNING....PLAYING WITH GAS FURNANCES CAN KILL YOU OR LOVED ONES....
That being said...sequence as follows: tstat closed, energizes the fan relay, closes sail switch, alowing ignition sequence. There are also high temp overrun switches in this circut....placement varies by model but interuppts the gas igntion/burn operation only(newer models....some older units did kill the motor as well). This is a basic operations scenario that applies to all gas furnaces. Dennis

Duo Therm Model 65941-002

In 1986 Cassa-Villa Park Model

Think I have seen the same issue on some boards but no attempt at an idea or solution to problem

Turn on at Thermostat Pilot lights then as fan is running it slowly burns out and fan/blower continue to runs

FYI I always had to click down thermostat then re-start real quick to get Pilot to light, never lights on first try

Any Idea's

I am having a similar issue. I have replaced the thermostat and it still is not workinig. Mine will run through a cycle, get to temp and shut down. Then it will never kick back on unless I shut it off and back on. Did you ever get yours fixed? What was this issue? Thanks Dennis

Mike - Before you buy anything measure the : Length
Width
Height
of the furnace now. Also measure where & what size the hot air vents are on the old furnace and draw an accurate sketch for a referance to use when considering a replacement model. Before you remove your old unit measure how much "Extra" clearance you have in length, width & height in inches incase the replacement is larger than the one you have now. The lenght between the end of you unit and the outside wall is the critical measurement ! I bought a used Duo Therm furnace & found out it was to long & now I have to re-sell it & find something smaller. Make sure you are buying exactly what you have now: 12 volt only or 12 volt/110 volt (Combination) or 110 volt only........make sure exactly what you have now and note this on you diagram & ask questions before you buy !
If you have any questions email me, Denny

Have 1979 Prowler trailer with Doutherm heater that pilot works but won't light after kicks over from the thermostat. What do you suggest? Not wanting to spend much money on repairs - Thanks John
